Construction Standards

  • Finest Lycra available – We only use 4-way stretch Lycra that is a minimum of 5.5oz. We never cut corners and use a cheap thin Lycra.  If the fabric doesn’t meet our standard of quality, we send it back to the mill for someone else to buy.
  • Stretchable seams – Every seam is stitched with four threads of commercial quality thread on commercial machines. This creates a very stretchy but very strong and durable seam. And with commercial machines there are no missed stitches which can create a weak spot along a seam.
  • Extra reinforcement – Extra reinforcement is given at all stress points to insure longer wear.
  • Elastic encased hems – Another one of our innovations. Gently holds hoods in place without stretching out, riding up and sagging. Soft elastic is used in tender areas and heavier corset elastic is used in areas where a stouter stretch is needed. All elastic is covered so it won’t rub out your horses coat like uncovered elastic can.
  • Genuine YKK zippers – The clothing industries finest and most durable brand of zipper. Seen on all high end clothing. They cost more but you don’t want your zipper breaking after one use.
  • No center seam over mane – A seam over the mane will rub it out.
  • Right sized eye and ear holes – If the eye holes are too small the hood can run up into your horses eyes. If the eye holes are too large, too much of your horse’s head will be exposed to dirt and shavings.
  • No seams in the eye area – Bulky seams in the eye area are a source of irritation to many horses.
  • Velcro adjustment at the muzzle – We originated this feature that allows you to custom fit your hood to your horse every time.
  • Side girth closures – Another one of our innovations. No more fumbling under your horse to close the velcro or buckle. Just grab the long end and close.
  • Extra-length through the back – Your hood will not ride up over your horse’s withers when he puts his head down to eat.
  • No fleece on the muzzle – Fleece only attracts shavings which  makes the muzzle itchy.  A hood that requires a fleece muzzle in order to be comfortable is a poor “patch” for an ill-designed hood.
  • Generous sizing throughout – We don’t believe that a size 10 foot can fit comfortably into a size 6 shoe so why should your horse have to wear a sleezy that is too tight (painted on look)? Overstretched hoods wear out quicker and are the number one source of irritation to your horse. Yes it costs more to use more fabric but we want to give your horse the most comfortable fit ever.  Ample sizing throughout the garment allows the fabric to lay smoothly but still have plenty of stretch available to be able to move with your horse. Generous sizing extends the life of your sleezy.
  • Alterations always free – Do you have a horse that is different than average, such as a heavier neck, larger jowel, etc. Let us know when you place your order and we will adjust our patterns, at no charge to you, for a more tailored fit.
