Sleezy Barb Horsewear was founded in 2000 by me, Barb Drake, and is located outside the central Michigan town of St. Johns. It all began when my Paint gelding, Exciteme With Magic, shredded his new $89 sleazy hood the first night of a weekend show. After returning from the show, I started drawing and testing designs on my horse and the horses of friends. Soon people took notice at the shows and began asking if I would make a sleezy for their horse.

Always seeking to fulfill a need, we have invented such products as the Faceless Sleezy, fast polo wraps, high visibility easy on-off quarter sheets, adjustable mane tamers, and unique horse costumes. I’m continually reviewing and improving the products as high-tech fabrics and components become available. Doing so assures that the customer is receiving the highest quality articles on the market today.

Since we are a small manufacturer, we can cater to each customer’s needs. Each of our products is produced by skilled “craftswomen” one piece at a time.  These are not “off the shelf” products imported from China. Every item is made when the order is received. Order details are spelled out according to the customer’s requests. Each order is cut, in chronological order, one piece at a time by hand. Next, every item is sewn on a machine that allows us to use high-end finishing methods such as reinforced seams that are not offered by production-oriented stretch horsewear manufacturers. This fine tailoring includes a small stitch which makes a more durable item. Other details, such as elastic reinforcement of edges, triple stitching of stress points, and use of premium quality thread with extremely high tensile strength are simply not found elsewhere. The attention to detail and quality adds time to the manufacturing process, but the end product is worth it.

We have created such industry innovations as a 3-4 day turn around time on made-to-order sleezys instead of the typical three to six week time frame; pioneered the concept of “Build Your Own Sleezy” which allows the customer to design their custom sleezy from fabric selection to zipper type to girth closure; free custom alterations; 13 sizes from miniature horses to large draft; and a huge selection of colors to match any style.
